Why is Sify Broadband not even broadband?

They are a company milking the customers while they can because as 1000s of users all over India have found it out the hard way that what they give out is not what they promise. I am reminded how pathetic they are every time I try to download something during the daytime. On a package that come labeled 48kbps+, what I get most of the time is speeds around 3KBps. You know you are not on broadband when downloading a 350 Megs file, the approximate download time the download manager shows you comes out to be around 3 days and 10 hours. A 3 meg file takes 30 minutes to download with surfing made impossible for that time period considering there is little bandwidth left for a browser to retrieve pages.

The broadband scene in India is so pathetic that TRAI had to come in with a recommendation, which says that the minimum speed for a connection to be labeled broadband is 256kbps. It is not a rule or a law afaik considering Sify is still selling packages rated 32/48/64/128 in the name of their Sify Broadband brand name. However, they have recently taken some steps to fix this. No, they are not going to upgrade their sadder than dialup packages to broadbandish speeds. They just add some headers to the product plan pages on their official website. Now, packages with speeds lower than 256kbps are labeled hi-speed connection. Only the 256kbps packages are specified under broadband connection. Also notable is the fact that there is no mention of the fact that there is a 75megs a day download limit on shared packages after which speeds are further reduced to worse levels.

So, this justifies the broadband term in their corporate name! I can already hear the explanation if someone complains about lack of speeds, “We also sell broadband packages!” But, sorry to say Mr. R. Ramaraj, your services suck and Sify Broadband is a sham.

I have been using Sify for more than a year now and have been using it from the initial days of when the insanity started.
Well Hoping of getting a better service I have almost subscribed for all the plans they have mentioned.
I also knew some loop holes of getting a better speed with Sify unfortunately which is no more working.
When it comes to speed I believe a dialup can do justice than Sify Broadband.

I am a download maniac, I am a serious devotee of Kazaa and other p2p Softwares and when I start my computer I have one thing in mind, which is â??Downloadâ??, but the glitches are ::
First I have a limit over download on certain packages and believe me I have completed a 128kbps package in 3 days
Secondly when I go get Ultd packages it takes me a whole era for me before I complete a download probably of 10mb or so as the download speed I get can never exceed more than 3 kbps even at night 2:00 O clock.
Sify seems to be an outcome of some of the jackass brains in the history of the broadband.

Sundar has described pretty much EVERY internet company in India. All of them are a joke. Broadband is non-existent. Unbelievable, how pathetic the situation in India is.

    Hi,
It is very painful to see so much frustrated customers of sify Broadband. I am lucky that i have not opted for Sify Broadband instead i gone for cable internet with local ISP here in Jaipur which gives me surfing speed between 35 to 42 kbits/secs and download speed of 4 to 5.5 kbytes/sec at just monthly rental of Rs.450 + 10.2 service tax. But only problem is there is a downtime of arount 20% in a month but it is cheapest with unlimited donload limit with stable download speed 24 hours a day.

Its a one bastard company sify I must tell you. This top honchos like Mr. Ramaraj just eat our money and give interviews here and there. They don’t even look what public is facing. Customer care is just for name sake those people don’t even know abcd of things. In 24 hrs the connection remains up for around 15-16 hours and these hours are those when i don’t use the net. And the speed slower then a tortoise. Mr Ramaraj njoy on our hard earned money and don’t care anything about the service you provide.
