Research In Motion says they cannot give backdoor entry to government
Research In Motion has notified the Indian government that they are unable to give them a backdoor entry into their enterprise email system.
The company said that the Blackberry email system is designed to exclude any kind of such access to a third party.
RIM said that the user itself has the complete access to the email system and they do not have a master key to intercept the emails to provide a backdoor.
As a result, they are totally incapable of fulfilling the Indian government’s request to provide them access to their customer’s email system in case they need to intercept messages for national security purposes.
Indian government had barred Tata from launching their own Blackberry services until they were provided such access to customer emails. They have also notified existing providers of RIM services in the Indian market for such access.
