The menace is the local cable guy/linesman

The local cable guy of Sify visited home while I was out of town and told mom to tell me to get the ultra expensive fiber optic cable to my home if I was looking for reliability. This letter to Sify Management shows how pathetic it looks to me:

Hi,

This is just an update from this guy from panchkula who has made life for some people in Sify a hell it looks like. The net has been reliable since u called which just proves that good reliable service is of course possible… It just need some effort from the local team.

Just a small down point… The local linesman visited while I was not at home and told mom that I should go for the fibre cable connectivity if I was looking for reliability. Now that’s pretty distasteful altogether. If they can’t do their work properly, they have no right to tell me to go for the expensive package. I don’t think it shows Sify in good light considering the claims it makes on its brochure regarding the reliability of the service (read it carefully if u don’t get what I mean). If he had said the same thing to me, I would have given him some piece of my mind. I again say I am not expecting perfect connectivity. Downtimes of a day or 2 in a MONTH is expected. But if they think a day or 2 days downtime in a week is acceptable, well… U better change ur brochure mentioning that…

But no hard feelings for u or the Sify broadband team in general. It has been the best few days of my relationship as a customer of Sify Broadband. And I look forward to better ones in the future…

Regards,
Sushubh

well just to let u know if the option is fiber vs. coaxial then fiber is a always going to be more reliable regardless of the support, u can cut a piece of fiber almost in half and u wouldnt notice any difference. even though they may say its a digital service if it is on coaxial it is still using analog frequencies the same frequencies as say a cordless phone or a wireless network adapter, not to mention television and radio, and cut in the wire even on ur end can cause severe ingress whick can result in a huge loss of speed the modems convert the analog signal into something “digital”. the maximum speed possible on a coax system is 30 megs a sec while the fiber has a limitless potential. if u have ever not had cable services and were using an antenna to pick up broadcast signals, and didnt have an antenna handy u could plug in the cable wire to make ur reception clearer that means those broadcast frequencies always r bleeding over into coax. now that by no means means that u would even need the speed of a fiber connection but it is a whole different wire setup all the way to the backbone of the system if he was offereing u a fiber services and they werent running new fiber optic cables through ur whole house the the lineman is an even bigger con-man then u think if it is truly and all fiber network though it is worth it, as one fiber cable can carry telephone, video, and data services with a limitless bandwith potential in the future they will be doing away with coax altogether and everything well be fiber, i worked on an all fiber network in the states and thats the only way for true digital signals.

    Mr Dave,
Agree that the coax dosent stand anywhere near to the fiber.
But Sushubh, was worried because of the downtime of more than 2 days/week on an average.
This i think can be easily corrected by a proper and regular maintenence of the lines. Needless to
say that the local operator charges us a up to 20% of the sify packake amount. And if he says
“invest a couple of thousand ruppes and get a fiber line if you want reliablity…” thats disgusting
    and frustrating….

This sentence directly translates into “i wont take pains to improve the lines, the maintenence
charges that you give is for my own personal maintenence, and if you want reliability, give me
    another 10/20 k”

Hope that i dont sound too much exertive…
    Thanks
