Bharti, Idea, BSNL and Vodafone told to provide connectivity to Reliance GSM
TRAI has now directed the existing GSM companies in the country to provide interconnection to Reliance’s newly launched GSM services.
Bharti, Idea, BSNL and Vodafone are four of the biggest GSM service providers in the country. Spice Communications has also received similar directions from the regulatory body.
TRAI said in its statement: “Report the compliance within seven days of the date of issue of this direction that is latest by the 21st August, 2008”.
The GSM service providers are saying that their current agreement with Reliance is limited to provide connectivity to their CDMA services.
If they want to extend the agreement to their GSM services, they would be required to negotiate fresh commercial terms.
