Apple iPhone 3G in India pricing: Rs 31,000 and Rs 36,100 for 8GB and 16GB model respectively

Apple iPhone 3G

Vodafone India has finally revealed the prices of the Apple iPhone 3G for the Indian market.

They are going to offer both 8GB and 16GB models.

The 8GB model would sell for Rs. 31000. The 16GB model would set you back by Rs. 36100.

Apple has provided them with a limited stock, so they are advising interested customers to pay an advance fee to book their iPhone at Vodafone stores.

They can do that by pre-paying Rs. 10,000. The company would then give them an appointment time and date. They can then go to the store at that specified time to collect their phone.

We are yet to get the details on the packages being offered by Vodafone on the Apple iPhone.

That is a stupid pricing for indian market.
If a apple announces price of $199. then why its $715 for india.
It is going to be a disaster for apple and vodafone

frankly speaking USD 199 price for the iphone in US is with a two year long contract. you pay like 50-60 dollars minimum for that period.

without the contract, ihone goes for around USD 500-600 in USA. that is more than Rs. 20000. considering apple products cost much more in india compared to the US, it is somewhat a logical pricing.

well they were not really expecting to sell more iphones than they sell the 'magic box'…

they priced it as per it was always expected. apple iphone fans would buy it regardless of the price.

It's a rip off… We can get an unlocked iPhone in the grey market for lot less… and if we get it from friends from U.S it's more cheaper. It'ld be a good strategy for pricing it around20000 – 24000 INR as they could have a greater market share replacing the Nokia N Series…

Ok. a few questions for you!

Is the iPhone 3G available in the grey market? Is it unlocked? How much is it for?

Is it possible to get an iPhone 3G from US without a contract for a lot less than what we are going to pay here?

Is the iPhone competing with Nokia N Series in India?

iPhone at 31K / 36K ! Not worth it at all. Does the Indian service-providers and Apple-India feel that there are more than few fools in India to buy it at that price? No way… Will fall on face very soon. Big failure I must say. Indians dont like to be extorted by anyone. Seriously, this is burglary in broad daylight.
I suggest that they make use of these sets to build their interiors/table/chairs, rather than dumping simply heeeheeee.

“The domestic price, however, is much steeper than the US price. The handset is available for $199 (Rs 8,358) in the US, plus $99 (Rs 4,158) as an annual contract with the telecom company since the handsets are linked to the service provider.”

Are you Vodafone regional sales reps or something?

After say a six months price will be down to < 20K, or even less…
One thing more Vodafone proudly announce that
“Select features and services are currently available in India.
3G features can be used on 3G networks while roaming abroad.” :)
Really cool na… Indians going aboard can use 3G now… Great going Vodafone…
