Airtel Broadband blocks IRC Access

If I was angry with Sify Broadband for blocking NNTP servers, I think I would have to thank them for leaving IRC for now. Considering I use IRC a lot more than NNTP.
Why?
Because Airtel Broadband, which is supposed to be one of the best ISPs in India are getting a negative point from my side. They blocked IRC access to the users few days back on the name of preventing viruses from spreading on their network. Which I find quite funny considering most of the viruses I get are from email. So, what would they ban next? POP and SMTP ports?
It is totally insane.
Two of my friends are unable to connect to our IRC Channel and there are more users reporting the same problems. I wished there was something that could have been done about it.
It really sucks to be in India if you want to remain online.

Just connect on port 7000 or something instead. Works for me.

I agree. It realy realy SUCKS in INDIA. Internet is in sucha BAD shape and I dont see any development.
Its a shame after paying money ,we dont get what we paid for.
ISP says like BSNL 256kpbs, but frankly CIR is 46kpbs. can you imagine only 46kbps. Which i think now a days in USA dial up is even 56kpbs every where. I can only say , Internet in INDIA realyt SUCKS. and only reason is we people are use to living like this. Government is corrupt and we too. Our system is like that.
Good luck , I am waiting for the day when We ( Indians) will get a True BROADBAND.

I use Airtel Broadband in Karnataka and I AM connected to IRC right now. It works. Maybe they do not know how to use it or a local firewall is blocking their access to IRC.

well… one friend of mine in bangalore cannot access some particular IRC servers. and it was a problem when the post was published. now its working fine in many areas including where i am located right now. :)

To talk about Airtel Customer Care, the customer care executives and even the senior guys are feeling that they have achieved everything in customer care. They are least bothered even if a customer is yelling at them.
I had been to Airtel Point, Cunningham Road, they simply give u false promises and nothing is done in time. It is a shame on there part to not take part actively with the customer. They simply need another brushup of the things they have to concentrate.
I simply did not get what i wanted for more than 7 days after paying the required amount.
Hopefully, things will impove i think, but i do not know when……

Internet in india SUCX BIG BIG TIME. those mofo are just eating all you guys money. currently im living in the US and i pay about 20$ which is around Rs 800 and i get 3mb line. when i first using dial up here it was WAYYYY FASTER than the LAN lines in india.

I agree Airtel Broadband is pathetic.I took their 495 plan which is phone + broadband (Speed claimed -256…never seen!)and guess what the first bill i get is Rs.8000/- whereas i hardly used it.Customer care told me that their was a mistake in calculation and then they waive off Rs.4000/- calling it as adjustment not correction which also is unacceptable as i calculated internet usage to be just Rs. 350/-+ Rs. 1400/- for phone..When initially the agent visited my place and told me that u get 10hrs free/ month in Day and 25hrs/month free at night and so we took this plan… but now when i tell this to customer care they told me that this is not the case. now i have to pay Rs.3311/- or else i will be penalised for delay.

Themaximum is 512kbps but thay give you throughoutput. and 2mbps maximum connection for private leased line. US had 355mbps Internet Service at low prices. But india doesn’t give you services as you want. every company cheats. They just promise and nothing to be done. I am waiting for USA Visa and fly to USA. And never come back in motherfucker India in my entire life.

Well, I have a TATA Indicom connection and sadly recommend it to nobody. It sucks. Speed is good but not reliable. Out of 10 days, 8 days the server remains down. WTF!
