Sify selling night only ‘broadband’ packages with no support

Sify has a vast network where they are providing Internet services under the brand name of Sify Broadband. However, unlike most other ISPs, they are relying over local cable operators and business associates to provide the service. The good thing about this concept of providing services is that you do not have to worry about the last mile connectivity as it is handed by the local guys.

But the problem is that local guys usually are goons who care little for the end customer. Same thing is happening with Sify Broadband. Most customers are facing problems, which are related to the CTOs. Add to that, Sify are providing packages, which makes it worse for the customers.

Take the Sify’s night only package for instance. It comes with speeds of 128kbps (cannot be called broadband as per TRAI’s instructions) which works only from 9pm to 9am. It comes cheap for just Rs. 400 but the problem is that no CTO or BA is going to give the user support after 8-9 pm. So, if the user faces any problems at night, he has no one to complain to. He can of course register a complaint with the Sify’s Call Center but they would respond only next day.

This makes me think… how can a company deliver packages it cannot provide support with. Mails to Customer Care did not help as no one responded. Even worse are the reports that Sify is selling special packages in areas it faces more competition. Customers in other cities are not made aware of these packages. If this is not cheating, then what is?

I do agree with you. It is really painful to obtain a night only connection. The connection did not work for full 7 days from the day it was installed and the so called competent engineers from Sify who visited in the morning time could not help much as I had the connection which only worked at night. Besides, I keep getting complaint numbers from the Chennai contact numbers who do promise to do something the very next day and the end result is Zero service. This has been going on for a full one month now.

We had taken two Sify Broadband connections under the Unlimited Range Plan in the beginning of March 2005. The connections were taken under the usernames “citicap” and “citibazaar”. We had paid for the 6 months packages for both the plans alongwith the installation charges. The local service provider was Krishna Services, Delhi. However from day one the connections were slow and always dropping. The connections given were through loacl lan causing lot of virus issues as well. As we were not satisfied with the connection and the services we had asked SIFY to terminate the connections with immediate effect i.e. March 2005.

We have sent numerous mails for the last couple of months but our complaint has neither been heard nor has any one bothered to revert / communicate with us.

We only want our full refund of the internet connection charges after and the installation charges immediately.

Hope this forum will help us get or money back and warn other users from never using SIFY.
