Research in Motion considering Blackberry manufacturing in India

Research in Motion has said that they are considering plans to start manufacturing their Blackberry Smartphones in the Indian market.

The company has just launched their Blackberry Bold model in partnership with Airtel in India.

RIM co-Chief Executive Officer Jim Balsillie said in a statement: “We are aggressively developing a ‘Made in India’ strategy to bring in India-specific products. We are absolutely committed to some of the very special plans and programmes, and are working with our carrier partners to this end.”

The idea to start local manufacturing is based on developing products that are cheaper to build.

Nokia and Motorola are two mobile companies which are already manufacturing handsets in the Indian market.
