Sify Broadband Offering Special Packages in Specific Zones

Sify Broadband initially offered roaming services, which let a consumer use his ID throughout India on any computer connected to their network. This was a great plan offering users freedom to share their packages with relatives and friends.

However, now things have changed. They have reportedly divided the country into separate zones with their own packages and authentication servers. As a result, a package bought in Mumbai is no longer valid in Delhi. This let Sify to offer special packages in separate zones, which cannot be used by consumers in other zones.

A good example can be seen from their package codenamed AULM. It is apparently being only being offered in the Mumbai zone where the competition is more intense. Hence, regular packages with low speeds are not attractive enough to the Sify Broadband users. It offers speeds of 128kbps with no limits to Mumbai users. It comes cheap at around 600-700 bucks.

The same package is not available in the Delhi zone comprising of Patiala and Chandigarh. The best they have is night only package at 400 rupees. Local Sify Broadband representatives say that AULM package should be available in the Sify’s next product overhaul. For now, the best package with no time limit in Delhi zone comes with speeds labeled ‘up to 96kbps’ which has a limit of 75megs download. After which speeds are dropped to 24kbps.

Airtel Broadband is offering 128kbps connection with no limits for 900 rupees per month applicable throughout India.

Sify Broadband in Chandigarh: Sify Broadband already blocks pings/tracerts to external websites. In addition, NNTP is also blocked. The latest in Panchkula is that pinging local authentication servers has been blocked as well! There is no way one can check the condition of the local network…
