National Do Not Call violators getting disconnected

Indian telecom regulatory body TRAI has announced that more than 10,000 telephone connections of telemarketers have been disconnected for violating the National Do Not Call registry.

These call centers made calls to mobile numbers which were listed on the DNC registry.

Most of the connections disconnected in this drive belonged to unregistered telemarketers.

TRAI added in its statement that just around 5% mobile users in India have opted to join the registry.

They have also levied fines on the telemarketing companies for breaking the rules.

TRAI stated: “Considering that more than 18 million subscribers are registered, these complaints constitute about 0.44% of the total registered subscribers. We have also issued preliminary show-cause notices to various service providers for not taking action on the guilty telemarketers.”
