Idea Cellular now in Karnataka
Idea Cellular has now launched their services in Karnataka. They had acquired B K Modi promoted Spice Communications earlier this year.
The GSM based mobile service provider further announced that they are going to invest around Rs 300 crore for network upgrade in the state in the next 15 months.
Idea has already launched their services in Punjab where Spice was already a major player.
Himanshu Kapania, director – operations, Idea Cellular spoke about their investment plans: “We have decided to cover the hinterland of the state, and plan to expand our coverage from the present 3,400 towns to 11,200 towns by March 2010. Besides, we plan to cover all national and state highways apart from rail routes which will provide seamless connectivity to our subscribers across the state”.
With these plans, the company would now become the third largest private GSM player in the country with a subscriber base of 36 million.
