Sify Broadband Alternative Clients

Looks like my leaving Sify Broadband for Airtel Broadband has influenced so many programmers that Alternative Sify Broadband Clients are coming out on a daily basis. I have already seen three released in the last couple of days. Here is the list.

Sify Broadband client by Bhushan Tiwari

The page seems to have disappeared suddenly but the C code file still exists here. The cache of the original page can be accessed from here as long as Google keeps it!

EasySify by Bhaskar Kishore

This one seems to be the most popular at the moment. It has been released as an open source community project on SourceForge. The feature list is:

• Connection Keep Alive - Keeps your connection active as soon as the network
  is restored. It also acts a check to see if the Sify Servers are responding
  or not.
• Default Home Page Launch Selection - You can choose to launch the default
  homepage or not.
• Ram Usage - Drastic Decrease in RAM usage. Despite of the fact that the
  current Build 57 is done on unoptimised and sloppy code (Very Tired :}) the
  following RAM usage figures are obtained :-
  • 6.2 Mb RAM Usage when EasySify window is open and Login has been successful.
    A 17% Decrease.
  • 0.5 Mb RAM Usage when EasySify is minimised via menu and keep alive
    is disabled.
  • 2.5 Mb RAM Usage when EasySify is minimised via menu and keep alive
    is enabled.

    The BBClient v2.52 by Sify uses about 7.5Mb of RAM at all times.
    Of course these figures may vary a little. I just used Task Manager to
    keep track of memory usage.

• Version Compatible with BBClient 2.5.2

SuperSify by our own infernalproteus

This one is just released and claims to just consume 80KB of Physical Memory. The features are:

Apart from logging you on, keeping you on, and logging you off; SuperSify doesn’t do much else. The really cool part about it is, the really small memory footprint. As compared to Sify’s official clients - it takes a maximum of around 80KB of Physical Memory. eighty kilobytes. Compare that to the 8 MB that you lose to the Win32 client and the 15 - 20 MB which you lose to the Java client, I’d say it’s worth not having a GUI … for now.
