BSNL to invest heavily to expand broadband availability
Indian government owned telecom company BSNL has announced that they are planning to invest Rs 1,600 crore in infrastructure facilities to expand broadband availability.
The company said that they are aiming to support eight million broadband connections in the coming months.
BSNL said that they have received order from the government to roll out eight million broadband connections.
The company further wants to add 9 million connections by end of 2009. The long time goal is to add 3 million customers every year.
Broadband availability is limited in India. High speed Internet penetration is less then 1 per cent.
BSNL claims that they have a 60 per cent market share with 5.52 million connection base.
