DoT approves long distance calling cards
Indian Department of Telecommunications has now given their approval to long distance operators to sell calling cards in the Indian market.
This would enable the customers in the market to pick their own long distance call service provider.
TRAI had recommended that this market should be opened up to increase the competition in the market that is likely to cut costs for the end user.
This new service is called Carrier Access Code and it enables the user to choose a long-distance operator no matter what service they are using.
This move has been opposed by the telecom operators in the country who fear that the competition from other players would hurt their profits.
