Airtel puts a limit on unlimited broadband connections
Update: It was pretty obvious but now it is confirmed. Airtel is calculating both uploads and downloads in these newly set limits.
Airtel Fair Usage Policy. It’s the latest nightmare for us… The Customer.
The latest news from the India Broadband Forum is that Airtel has now set a limit on their unlimited data transfer plans.
Customers who cross this limit would end up with a slowed down connection.
Customer representatives in some cities have confirmed this.
Reports say that the limits have been put in place from February 7.
As per forum sources, the limit on their unlimited plans are as under:
128 kbps = 10 GB download limit per month
256 kbps = 15 GB download limit per month
384 kbps = 20 GB download limit per month
512 kbps = 25 GB download limit per month
1 Mbps = 150 GB download limit per month
Some Airtel users have confirmed that their speeds have been reduced to almost half of what their package promises.
Airtel is said to be using the Fair Usage excuse for implementing these limits on the so called ‘unlimited data transfer’ packages.
The company seems to have forgotten that they should have informed their customers of this new restriction before implementing it.
Looks like, a lot of Airtel customers are going to get shocks this month as more users cross the limits on their packages. I guess Airtel does not believe in fairness to us, the customers. They just expect us to be fair to them.

If they start throttling then just switch to a competitor. That would be the best challenge than complaining to TRAI. BTW, TRAI recently came down heavily on telcos on their substantial quality of services and products. This should at least give them
a heads up.
And how is airtel better than bsnl?
I always thought bsnl is the best and cheapest. The unlimited EDGE plan Mobile Office from Airtel on my mobile totally sucks. I get just little better speed (2 times at most) than a dialup.

As per their customer service executives, the speeds will be reduced to 128 Kbps (15 KBps download) once the above limits are reached irrespective of their plan.
I have already requested them for disconnecting my internet.

My internet speed has been reduced to half from today morning when I called the customer service regarding this they confirmed about the fair usage policy.
I have requested for a disconnection :)

As you can see from my name..its obvious that I’m gonna shift to some other broad band connection. Even their mobile connection sucks now a days. If this goes for sometime then it wont be long, airtel will go down!! Reliance, tata here I come.. hope you guys dont disappoint me ;)

They reduced my 384 Kbps to around 240kbps two days back.
I will switch to different ISP at the end of this month.

This “limited” unlimitedness does not make any sense. I just talked to a customer care representative, and although they were patient enough to answer my queries, I still have no one from Airtel to whom I can take up this unfair usage issue. Switching to an alternate service provider is not a walk in the park either down where I live. I hope this Airtel Fair Looting policy is done away with soon.

Those ugly MF’s reduced my bandwith to 128kpbs… Im changing to BSNL now…. its worth the money… Those idiots wants the money for 256 kpbs but they provide only 128

Same here. BSNL is not an option for me though, purely because of their incompetence. Not that Airtel is competent, but when you compare the two, I guess you know who wins hands down. :(
