Airtel Broadband is now blocking VoIP services?
India Broadband Forum members are reporting that Airtel Broadband has now apparently started blocking VoIP services on their network.
A couple of members have reported that they can no longer access various VoIP servers located around the world.
Another member reports that Airtel is claiming that they are doing so on orders from TRAI and other ISPs in the country would soon follow.
Airtel has been using the TRAI excuse for implementing the stupid Airtel Fair Usage Policy as well. That is being used to slowdown the speeds of the users who cross a certain limit on the unlimited broadband packages.
In most cases, the limit is around 10% of how much a user can theoretically download/upload with their packages.
Airtel has never done such absurd things in the past. The customers are frustrated as they have no way to challenge the company considering TRAI does not really do much for them.
This is one of the messages received by one of the users on the India Broadband Forum:
We would like to inform you as per TRAI we have blocked the Voip ports if
need to release the same had to send the request in the below attached
format in the company letter head along with the company seal.
