TRAI fixes contention ratio number to improve quality of broadband services

TRAI has announced the limit to a minimum ‘contention ratio number’ of users who share the same bandwidth provided by the internet service provider.

The aim is to improve the quality of service of broadband in the Indian market.

TRAI said in its notification that the ISPs in the country would have to provide the minimum required broadband speed to their customers.

However, this could result in increased prices of broadband packages in the market if the ISPs decide to charge more to ensure the quality of service.

TRAI has stated in their ruling that the contention ratio for broadband at home has to be at 1:50 and for business at 1:30.
