Department of Telecom against Chinese telecom equipments
Department of Telecom has stated that they are not in favour of Chinese telecom equipments from being installed in the country on the basis of potential security issues.
This view is not being supported by the telecom giants in the country as they claim that a ban would escalate their costs.
Telecom companies in India stated that if they do not get the hardware from Chinese vendors, they would have to deal with monopolies in the developed markets which would prove to be much more expensive.
DoT is expected to come out with fresh guidelines in the coming weeks. Chinese telecom giant Huawei has already stated that they are ready to discuss any potential issues raised by the Indian government about security issues posed by telecom hardware supplied by them.
