India’s 3G and WiMax license auction now scheduled for December

India’s Department of Telecommunications has announced that the auction to sell the 3G and Wimax licenses would be held in December this year.

The auction was to take place earlier this year but it was delayed.

DoT said in its website that the auction process would start from December 7. Both Indian and International players are allowed to bid for the licenses.

Foreign companies would be required to set up joint ventures with local investors if they want to set up their operations in India.

MTNL and BSNL are two state owned telecom companies which are already allotted the 3G spectrum. They would be required to pay the amount to be paid by the top bidder.

it's good that the mobile market is growing fast, but India should see the growth in BROADBAND sector also which is much more important, BROADBAND sector should be given the first Priority, in countries like South Korea and Japan u get like 100 Mbps for less than 20$ and in India V don't even get 2 Mbps properly and true broadband is only when it is unlimited, hope Airtel focuses more on broadband than mobile now and provide higher Broadband speeds at reasonable prices..
