Bharti Airtel calls off merger talks with MTN Group

Bharti Airtel has announced that they have ended their talks with MTN Group.

The two companies had been discussion a possible deal to merge their operations.

Bharti Airtel is a leading telecom player in the Indian market while MTN Group is based in South Africa.

Bharti Airtel said that they had to discard the talks as the South African government was not in favor of the terms of the deal.

Incidentally, the two companies had in talks before as well. They had to discard those discussions in May last year.
