Customer Support from Broadband Companies in India

I have been a customer of the so-called ‘broadband’ companies in India since quite sometime now. Have faced all kind of issues related from false information to hidden clauses. However, the worse kind of behavior is arrogance. Arrogance of knowing that no other alternative is present in the area of the customer on the phone.

Knowing the fact that the customer has no possible way of hurting you by switching to a different service provider proves to be a major issue of concern. A good example is this particular problem being faced in certain areas of Bangalore. I am personally a happy user of Airtel Broadband with few issues. I have got better alternatives available in the form of Spectranet and even BSNL Broadband.

However, some areas of Bangalore have only Airtel Broadband as the net provider and the branch has for no apparent reasons blocked IRC access to their customers. IRC happens to be one of the most useful resources of contacting people worldwide to discuss topics related from software development to casual chat. The company gives no reasons for blocking the IRC access. Worse, the customer support people have a simple reply to any complaint…

If you are not happy with our service, feel free to get another ISP.

Interesting… Will they do the same once Reliance comes into the market on a larger scale? I do not think so. Airtel Broadband certainly needs to rectify such complacency from their branch offices. It does you no good to make mockery of your customer’s helplessness. If someone at Airtel is reading this post, I certainly hope they take some action.

On 17 July I got a message “Recharge with Rs.600 & get Rs.25 additional Talktime, total Rs.469. Offer period 15 to 31 July 05. T&C; apply”. When I Recharged on 23 July and even after 1 week I havent got Rs.25 extra. When I asked they abt it I go the answer offer has been closed. THis is really unfair.
