Honeymoon over for BSNL Broadband users?

BSNL broadband has gone paid with their download limits. There has been a lot of raving and ranting about the same in various forums. As if, there is anything that would happen. BSNL had this promotional scheme that would see “unlimited downloads” for anyone who was willing to sink his/ her hard earned money in the pit less coffers of government behemoth. Close on the heel of its launch, much of the advertisement blitzkrieg was targeted towards the “Broadband for Rs 500″ catchphrase.

That is roughly about $10. I remember some “telecom analysts” went overboard to claim that India has “arrived on the broadband scene”. Initial glitches apart, user reaction has been mixed. Very frankly, there is no rationale for download limits. We are still far off from realizing our true potentials. Elsewhere I had mentioned that BSNL is scrambling to put up billing servers (which are still not in place) and content delivery systems.

However, I really wonder as to how they hope to stream live video over 256k line. To make possible the impossible? Is the honeymoon really over for the people who had taken to file sharing et al? There is no official word yet. D. Maran is twitching and twiddling his thumbs, while the decision making process is perhaps stuck in the endless labyrinthine valleys of government offices. Something that all Indians are used to.

    Hi,
Man this BSNL broadband connection sucks ! I have a connection, and I’m scared to use it! Its fast, its hip, its useless ! I just downloaded a single copy of Borland JBuilder Enterprise using torrents and its 900mb. I think I will download the Enterprise Server next month if I still have the phone??? Its absolutely useless to a programmer ~ Anway, I waiting for my bill I did some serious downloading earlier in Linux ( JDK 5, MySQL, Tomcat, JacORB for CORBA) about another GB, seriously, It’s been 2 days since I got the connection, and I’m already wondering about the bill ? This is nuts !@@#%@#&^&*

With Regards and keep away Warnings,
