BSNL launches low cost Wi-Fi services

BSNL already has a broadband Internet service available widely around the country. The state run company is now aiming to conquer the Wi-Fi internet centers with low introductory tariffs and high-speed net access. The initial low tariffs would be applicable for the initial 3 months and would offer free browsing on Sundays.

Also, during this period, the tariffs of a minimum of Rs. 20 per session for pre-paid and Rs. 10 for post-paid members will not be applied on the users of the service. The company is offering pre-paid service and has on offer coupons ranging from Rs. 100 to Rs. 1,100 and usage charges per minute ranging from 67 paisa (for a Rs. 1,102 coupon value card) to Re 1 for a Rs. 100 card with usage minutes offered between 100 minutes to 1500 minutes respectively.

BSNL also has a post-paid option available for Rs. 1,500 monthly charges for Unlimited Plan. In addition, another plan is targeted at ‘Netone’ customers with ‘nil’ monthly charges and 50 paisa per minute (Rs. 30 per hour). The company plans to provide 300 Wi-Fi hot spots in 24 cities by the end of August. In addition, they would also be setting up 10 base stations for the under trial technology WiMax to cover larger areas.

The company has also launched a test project for Wi-Fi Internet connectivity at the Kolkata airport.

I am based in Mumbai and am currently in the business of providing wired broadband connections to residences and offices since the past 4yrs. Would like to have some more information on how I could probably start the service in South Mumbai or possibly anywhere in Mumbai..would appreciate a response on my mail id as mentioned earlier..
