Yahoo! collaborates with Verizon for Cheap DSL Services
Search engine giant Yahoo! has collaborated with networking giant Verizon in the United States market to provide cheaper high-speed Internet service. They have in competition the cable operators offering broadband Internet connections for cheap. Yahoo! and Verizon are planning to hit them with their lower pricing and better quality of services. The brand name Yahoo! brings would help their efforts quite a lot.
The companies would be providing their services for around $14.95 and the subscribers would be getting a DSL (digital subscriber line) with speeds up to 768kbps. The upload speed would be lower at around 128 kbps. Users can also get the services at a lower price point provided that they take the subscription for a year. They would also get in this special deal access to Yahoo premium services, which includes antivirus protection, on-demand music videos and unlimited photo storage.
This offer provides slower speeds compared to the competition. SBC Communications, which launched a $14.95 DSL service with Yahoo in June, gives out speeds in the range of 1.5 mbps, which is around twice that of this new service. However, it still is a lot better than the widely available AOL Dialup service, which is even slower and more expensive than the services being offered by Verizon along with Yahoo!
This partnership would help Yahoo! increase its subscriber base to its premium services.
