Review of BSNL Broadband
Oh well, after a lot of wrangling and a couple of phone calls and complaints to the higher ups, I finally managed to get the Broadband installed. It would be impossible to review on the technical parameters; suffice to say that so far it has not gone kaput. Surprised to read online that BSNL has introduced the night unlimited plans. The tariffs are valid until next year. I may not be able to see any change in that soon. Oh, well pity.
Do the higher ups in BSNL be wide-awake at two in the morning? Lucky few for the few night owls who believe in the file sharing. They maybe able to leech the networks effectively…..all the best to them.
I believe that for other’s perspectives its better to head over to the forums- that may give a better bird’s eye view about the whole idiocies. One thing is for sure. BSNL is a necessary evil.

About

The person although looks indian by name but just by learning a few words in english doesnot mean that he is turned foreigner. India needs contribution from its young generation. Broadband internet at this rate is just great. What BSNL does is excellent although selfish fellows of the country like above might not agree. BSNL works on giving basis and it is one of best in world in obtained resources by a poorly driven country.

BSNL does a great job… but people still don’t seem to understand the term BROADBAND. I don’t think that anywhere else in the world 64 KBPS qualifies as broadband and there are caps on download… In all countries people subscribe to broadband to be always online… and there is no point in restricting downloads… after all, you are connected to the BSNL gateway and after that the internet is NOT speed restricted. It is just a way to make money and putting more equipment to monitor download speeds does not make it any cheaper !

the price is right but the 1gb day download limit is ridiculous. if its broadband it should be unrestricted. at least its improving considering the introduction of night unlimited feature.

I would appriciate the scheme launched by BSNL. Indeed broadband is required by masses in the country but catering them with reasonable rates is excellent. I hope people will not misuse it for commercial purposes. I am currently in Australia and here broadband limits start from mere 50 MB whereas 250 plan of BSNL gives you whopping 600 MB.I guess for general usage this is the best limit. I give all the best to BSNL and wish they would continue to improve Quality with price.
Cheers BSNL.

I require the BSNL helpline number for a broadband internet connection in Secunderabad, A.P, India. What number do I contact..I do not have a BSNL landline connection. All info will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

All the above reviews seem more parochial. I am presently in Germany and I am getting 6 Mbps line with unlimited downloads at 30 Euros per month from T-Online. If anything is broadband then this is it. India will take longer to reach that stage and many dont know/care what broadband might mean (and of course are blisfully unaware of the possibilities it offers). This is still a far cry. I have a touchtel pseudo-broadband (I prefer to call it so) connection in India and is free during night. Whatever money I spent on Touchtel I have to use it during nights only. Otherwise, for general purposes (where my mom or wife wants to check their mail), 250 Plan seems to be better.

Looks like they have hired a foreigner, Mike Sunny, as the General Manager (he wont understand if I say CEO) of BSNL. No wonder there is no improvement. How can it, with his level of literacy? BSNL is NOT a necessary evil, but they are evil for sure. Go to the private sector man!! Government and customer service never go hand in hand. They might try to change, but can their employees ever change their attitudes? They learned this behaviour over 10, 20 or 30 years of service. In their eyes they are always the king, and the customer the poor beggar coming for some bread crumbs!!!

I was reading some of the comments and pnmj alluded to download limit of 1 gb/day. Is it correct? From BSNL DataOne website, it seems that in Home 500 plan, 1 GB download limit is for 1 month. I’d appreciate if some one could clarify this. Thanks.

I’ll give my review later. Here is what i submitted in the online grievance form.
Hi,
Against mentioned time of 1 week, I got my DSL connection almost 5 weeks(on 10-05-06) after i registered(04-04-06) for it. I was happy that atleast i got the connection in the end. But later i found only one RJ11 cable is provided instead of two. Now either i can connect to telephone or to modem. I requested this the very first day i got my connection(10-05-06). But i am yet to receive it(already 10 days over). Before i was calling BSNL enquiry daily for checking when i will get my DSL connection. Now i’m calling daily for getting my RJ11 cable. I am not sure whether any one of you will ever read this or take some action after u read this. Just i’m using this grievance form for showing my frustration. Thats all.
Thanks & Regards,
Raj

well i have no complaints with BSNL, though yes they sometimes can be like a cow, take their own sweet time to get there, but when they get it, they get it right and within budget.
perhaps a bit more “revenue hungry” model which private folks follow (hence they are faster in delivery) would do them good.

1. getting a bsnl broadband connection is next to impossible (if u have managed to get one, consider urself lucky) 2. do not get a wireless modem; if u need it, get ur own wireless router. bsnl themselves will readily admit that there are bugs in their wireless modems 3. the connection is not consistent; sometimes, u will not be able to connect (and just when u really need to) 4. it isnt easy to get thru to customer care (u might have to be on hold for an hour or 2) n u will be put on hold again after u ask ur question, so that the agent can check with someone else what to do 5. if there is a problem, try to fix it urself, cuz its unlikely anyone in bsnl knows how to 6. finally, its a good service, provided it works, cuz if it doesnt, bsnl certainly cannot help u
i got myself a dataone wireless connection (bangalore). though i was charged from day 1, it was only activated 3 weeks later. there are days when i cannot connect at all, and then there are days that it is slower than my dial up. i have called the cuatomer care on various occasions only to be told that there is something wrong with all 3 of my family’s laptops (though i have no trouble with the airtel connection that i have). so i have had to get myself a backup connection thanks to bsnl’s unreliability
