More than 2 billion mobile users in the world
A new report released by industry body Wireless Intelligence setup by GSM Association and consulting firm Ovum claims that the number of mobile subscribers in the world has crossed the 2 Billion milestone. This means that around one out of every three individual in this world currently carries a mobile phone!
Wireless Intelligence said in a statement regarding their study release: “The bulk of the new growth now is coming from large, less well-developed markets such as China, India, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and Africa. World’s largest mobile maker Nokia itself had predicted that the milestone would be achieved by October this year.
Martin Garner, director at Wireless Intelligence added: “The total number of mobile connections is now equivalent to nearly a third of the estimated world population of 6.5 billion. Although total connections are higher than the real number of users due to multiple connections, or inactive pre-paid connections, this is still a significant landmark for the industry.â€
Nokia, Motorola, and LG are some of the companies planning to expand their operations in these developing companies, which are starting to become some of the biggest markets for these mobile companies. India and China are two of the fastest growing mobile markets in the world.
