Mobile market in China keeps growing
China continues to remain strong with the demand of cell phones growing every year. The mobile market in china is the largest in the world and interestingly it is not going to diminish anytime soon. The country apparently had 377 million mobile phone subscribers at the end of September. This comes to an incredible figure of 29 for every 100 people. This figure is amazing for a country with more than 1 billion people.
This figure is also amazingly 7.7 percent up from the month of June. The government had then reported the number of users to be at around 350 million users. Last year in June, the official figures quoted this number to be around 305 million. China took the cake and the honors of being the largest mobile market in the world when it touched the usage base of 250 million cell phone subscribers in 2003.
The growth is also helped by the increasing usage of SMS and MMS messaging. The number of short text messages sent in September by mobile devices rose 40.2 percent over a year earlier to 219 billion. Interestingly, the mobile users are not hampering the growth of landline phones, which also saw a growth to 345 million, by the end of September.

About

In Oct '05 I got a broadband internet connection (prepaid) from Tata Indicom. Before that I was having a dial up connection(prepaid) from Tata Indicom with user ID vasanthu@eth.net. I was assured more than once by Tata Indicom Customer Service both over the phone and by e mail that my unutilised balance of nearly Rs 1000 in my dial up account would be carried forward to my new broadband account though my user ID will be changed to vasanthu@vsnl.net. But after I actually got the broadband connection they told me that my previous balance with eth.net ID cannot be carried forward. Inspite of my sending several e mails to Tata Indicom Customer service drawing their attention to their earlier assurances, I am getting only expressions of regret and vague assurances that my concern is being looked into by their resolution team. Till date nothing has been done to settle my complaint and no final reply has been given.
In the meantime my attempts to utilise the previous balance with eth.net id to download music is also not bearing fruit as whenever I try to log in using my eth.net id I get an error message “invalid user name” though the download site has provision for using eth.net id. My complaints in this regard also have elicited no response.

Tata Indicom has stopped sending even their usual vague replies promising action on the complaint. For the last 15days I have not heard anything from them inspite of my sending a couple of reminders. If they had clearly told me that my previous balance in my dial up account with eth.net ID will not be carried forward to my new broadband account, I would not have purchased the new broadband connection from Tata Indicom. I would have gone in for the far cheaper alternatives offered by BSNL or Sify. Gurumurthy
