Vodafone to sell mobiles from vending machines

Now, you can buy mobiles like you buy your coke: from a vending machine. Europe’s dominating mobile service provider Vodafone is going ahead with a plan where they would be selling their mobile phone products through vending machines. These machines would be called QuickPhone kiosk and they would be offering three phones for sale.

The products are available for sale ranging between the prices of 30 pounds and 60 pounds (US$53.47 and US$106.95) Sims only packages would be sold for around 5 pounds (US$8.91). The first of these machines would be installed at the Vodafone stores in Manchester. And if the experiment is a success, it would be expanded to other localities.

Some of the other targeted places for such vending machines are airports, ferry terminals, and shopping centers. Vodafone would be using the 3G or GPRS connection to keep track of stocks and tempering with the machines. Tom Devine, Vodafone’s head of retail, said that this is primarily targeted at the foreign visitors to the United Kingdom who might need a mobile phone for emergency purposes.
