India to have 100 Million net users in 2 years
Industry sources have revealed that they are expecting to see the number of net users to increase to 100 million in the next 2 years. Currently the number stands close to just around 38.5 million. However, if we believe the response from the users of the recently launched and existing broadband services, not many are impressed by the kind of services and packages they are being offered.
Most ISPs in India continues to offer data transfer limited broadband packages which practically launch laughable limits. Many others have pathetic or non-existing customer support. Lack of options forces these users to rely on bad services for their internet connectivity, which is not going to help the cause in the longer run.
Back to the numbers, the number of Internet users has soared 54 percent from 25 million users in 2004-2005. Industry believes that the cause has also led to rise in online shopping for airline and rail tickets, books, and home appliances. The information was released by Preeti Desai, president of the Internet and Mobile Association of India.
The organization has based its forecast on increasing use of e-commerce and online communication. The group also claimed that they expect the e-commerce market to grow to rupees 23 billion ($511 million) by 2006-2007 from the present rupees 11.8 billion ($262 million).
