Venezuela gets Mobile Wimax technology from Samsung
South Korean technology giants Samsung would be deploying the innovating Mobile Wimax technology in the South American country of Venezuela. They have gone into collaboration with the Venezuelan pay-TV and telecommunications operator Omnivision C.A. Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. would be beginning their operations in the third quarter of 2006.
With the network established, Omnivision plans to start offering service from the fourth quarter of the year in Caracas. And as they expand their network, seven of the major cities of the country would be covered under this program. The expansion of the network is expected to take around three years.
This agreement to establish a Mobile Wimax platform in Venezuela comes after Samsung signed on a similar deal with TVA Sistema de Televisao SA in Brazil. They are aiming for a trial launch of their services in this country in the second quarter of 2006. Samsung dominates this new technology market with their development in the WiBro wireless broadband standard.
Mobile Wimax was recently made a standard by the standardization body and has been named as the 802.16e standard. WiBro is a subset of this established standard for wireless broadband technology. All the devices supporting this technology would be compatible with the parent Mobile Wimax systems.
