Airtel now targets Eastern India with their services
Leading mobile phone service provider Airtel has now plans to extend their reach in the eastern Indian region. Bharti Tele Ventures Limited Joint Managing Director Rajan Bharti Mittal said in a statement today that they plan to introduce wireless broadband technology in Eastern India. They believe that the market has huge investment potential and plans to take on the emerging industries in the region.
The company also launched their Blackberry services for Airtel customers in Orissa. Airtel also celebrated their one-year anniversary of providing services in the region. Eastern regions in India are generally not seen as hot markets for investing in IT services. However, Airtel has other beliefs. They claim that the region had shown high telecom penetration in terms of investment proposal, especially from steel and aluminum industries.
Airtel however denied that they had any immediate plans to enter the foreign markets. They are for the time being targeting expanding in India itself. Rural India is going to be a big market for IT services as per the company. Airtel plans to invest around Rs 250 crores by March 2006 and expand the network from existing 300 towns to 400 towns.
