Tokyo Broadcasting System collaborates with Index in Japan

One of the biggest TV broadcasters in Japan, Tokyo Broadcasting System Inc. has announced their plans to collaborate with mobile content provider Index Corp. The two companies would be forming a joint venture and have plans to broadcast television content over the internet. The rumors of such a deal were already floating in the market since the last couple of weeks and now it has been confirmed.

This deal happens to be just the latest one of similar ventures between the various players in this digitally advanced market. Many television companies have in fact become targets for Internet giants seeking to provide television content over the internet to gain more users. Along with TBS and Index, satellite TV broadcaster Sky Perfect Communications would also be joining the group in this joint venture.

These three companies are also planning to ask other nationwide TV networks to join them in their vision to broadcast television on the internet. One of the potential future partners is the Japan’s biggest broadcaster Fuji Television Network. They have got a long battle in front of them as largest companies are hunting for standalone companies for acquisitions.

In fact, TBS was itself targeted by the Japan’s biggest Web shopping mall operator, Rakuten last month for such a takeover deal.
