NTT DoCoMo is making more overseas investments and has decided to invest close to 300 million dollars in the Philippines top carrier PLDT. The decision to invest in the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company was announced by President Gloria Arroyo on a nationally televised program.

However, not much has been disclosed on what kind of investment this is going to be. Even the PLDT has declined to comment on this investment from the Japan’s top mobile and telecom firm. However, the report in the media is that the Japan’s NTT Communications Corp. was planning to sell its shares in PLDT to affiliate DoCoMo.

The report also quoted some sources claiming that NTT might be considering increasing its stake in the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company as it expands its services into the 3G technology. DoCoMo specializes in this field would help them to improve upon the new generation mobile services in the country.

PLDT operate mobile services in the region through their subsidiary Smart Communications Inc and they have recently secured 3G wireless licenses from the National Telecommunications Commission to offer 3G services in Philippines.
