TRAI frustrated with mobile congestion
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has stated that they are doubtful that the mobile service providers would be able to meet its deadline on improving the quality of their services. The latest report from the regulatory authority has revealed that the congestion on mobile networks have worsened in the last couple of months.
As per the latest statistics, the number of cities where the level of congestion is more than benchmark has touched 404. Even worse is the fact that, this level of congestion is more than 10% of the desired limit in more than 200 cities. TRAI had earlier instructed the mobile companies to bring the congestion levels across the country to permissible levels by December 31, 2005.
As per the parameters set by TRAI, out of 200 calls between two operators only one call should face congestion problem. However, if the reports are to be believed, the mobile service providers in India are nowhere near meeting these standards. The private mobile operators claim that the problem occur due to lack of proper interconnection with BSNL. BSNL happens to be the largest telecom operator in the country with more than 60 million subscribers.
The report from TRAI said: “The result of the monitoring reveals that in a number of areas, the degree of congestion between the operators is alarming. In a number of cities, the level of congestion between the networks of different operators is far more than this benchmark and the number of such places are increasing.â€

About

I am a bsnl per-paid mobile connection holder of Balasore, Orissa since 15.07.2003. Last from 31.12.04 I'm regularly observing that the STD bills are being deducted beyond limit. As per the rules (now) the STD rates to bsnl connection @ Rs. 2.00/min and to any other services @ Rs. 2.40. I have doing calls to these nos. regularly: 09830661577, 09324676288, 09324676291 and I'm contineously watching those STD calls are charging more than the actual amount should be (and at the rate of Rs.2.40, Rs. 4.80, Rs. 7.20, Rs. 9.60 extra)! These in very embarrassing and irritating. I have complained in 123 almost 5 times. Even I have complained in written to the Balasore telephone exchange. But all in vain. They said the bill deducting software is loaded commonly and it can't deduct more to a particular person. But till date these deductions are going on. I am very helpless. Pls. do something to solve this problem.
Regards,
Kalyan.
