BSNL misses deadline to implement OneIndia
The government of India announced their plans to levy uniform rates for calling any phone in India and advised the state owned telecom company BSNL to setup an example by launching the OneIndia package. However, BSNL has once again missed the deadline as they failed to launch any scheme by the republic day.
Reliance happens to be the only telecom service provider in the country, which has indeed launched a uniform calling rate for India. Reliance has a package, which enables the customer to call any phone in India at a flat rate of Rs. 1 per minute. However, the rentals for this phone are pretty high to be lucrative to a general mobile user. BSNL was supposed to come up with a similar package for their millions of customers as per instructions from the government.
Now the Indian government is considering seeking the help of TRAI in implementing this ambitious plan. Communication and IT Minister Dayanidhi Maran would be a disappointed man today with BSNL missing the deadline for the second time within a month. They were earlier told to launch such a scheme by January 1. This target was later postponed to January 26.
