Indian Government favors merger of MTNL and BSNL
The Minister of State for Communication and IT Shakeel Ahmad has said in a statement that the government has favored the merger of public sector telecom units Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd and Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Ltd.
He also mentioned that the government is now working out modalities based on the suggestions submitted to it by an expert committee three months ago. The process of merger of these two companies would be pretty complicated and would take sometime before anything happens.
He also said that the unions of both these companies are not against the merger talks and this would benefit the initiative from the government. Any visible action would only be visible by sometime next year. In the end, the aim of the government is to take steps, which favor everyone involved… consumers, workers in the company, and the financial status of the two parties involved.
