Telecom in India: 4.7 million new mobile users in January
India happens to be the world’s fastest growing mobile market. And the country saw close to around 4.7 new members joining the club in the month of January. The mobile service providers seem to have benefited from newly introduced schemes, which lured in more customers.
With this new customer base, the total number of mobile users in the country has touched a new height of 81.1 million last month. This includes 1.2 million new users reported by the association representing five carriers offering services based on Code Division Multiple Access technology.
The GSM technology based mobile service providers reported that they gained around 3.5 million new customers last month. The Association of Unified Telecom Service Providers added that Reliance Infocomm Ltd. added 804,207 mobile customers in January, boosting its user base to 13.8 million. Tata Teleservices added 380,590 new customers.
