Bad Bad Sify Broadband Service, CTO the culprit

I would like to share with this broad audience about my grievances ever since I subscribed to the Sify Broadband service.
My name is Ajay, I stay in Bangalore(New-Thippasandra) area. I subscribed to the Sify Broadband service through one of Sify’s franchisees, Galaxy Krystal, a local Cable TV operator.
I subscribed to the Sify Broadband Service with Galaxy Krystal [ Owner: Bright Rajan ], a cable TV operator(CTO), on the 26th of November 2003 by paying Rs 4498/- ( 3999/- as Installation charges and 499/- as the package charges for BROADBAND TRIAL PACKAGE 128 KBPS). I was connected two weeks later. Thereafter started all the problems.
Problem 1: Bad Service – Not connected for over a month now
Out of every 5 times I would connect, I observed 2 or 3 times the connection would be down. I would report this to the CTO and they would rectify it in 1 or 2 days. The reason given would be that the power was down in the Internet parlor in which the Hub was placed. The reason sounded reasonable and I didn’t make a big fuss about it. Slowly the service improved too. Then came this serious problem. I lost connection on the 04th of May and reported the same. I was told there was a problem with the Hub because of the heavy rains and it would be rectified. It’s been a month and the service is still not rectified. Every time I call up a new excuse is being given to me – “water has got in to the cable/Hubâ€, “will be done todayâ€, “I will call backâ€(this answer is used most no. of times). But NOTHING has happened. I am seriously affected because I do some office work out of home through a VPN connection.
I had a good opinion about Sify service, but cant say the same now Thanks to the Franchisee.
Problem 2: Exorbitant Service charges
The CTO charges Rs 199/- for every Rs 300/- package I buy through him as service charges. If I buy BB Gold(thankfully I didn’t), he would charge Rs 3700/-, instead of Rs. 2500/-. There are many people I have talked to who do not pay such charges in their area for Sify Service. I brought up this matter with one of Sify’s employees. She agreed that the charges were high but asked me to directly negotiate with the CTO as she was not in a position to do anything for me!!. The CTO has a separate Tariff sheet, which he shows to his customers. The sify Tariff sheet is not shown. I plan to attach the scanned images of the tariff sheets.
I once bought a sify package directly from the Internet and not thru CTO. On knowing this he cut my connection, unless I would pay up the Service charges. I had not denied him the service charges, but he does not seem to like that customers buy products directly without his involvement.
To summarize, the Franchisees seem to be playing havoc with the customers. THE SERVICE IS VERY BAD and I see that Sify’s image in the Broadband arena is taking a hit. I have written to some of the Sify executives directly, and I will withdraw this POST only if my service is restored.
So guys watch out before you buy a connection from Sify when a CTO is involved.

Same problem here. I asm in Malleswaram and I am also having a dismal connection. If Sify continues with the CTO system (I am unlucky I took the six month package) they will have to shut down. I strongly recommend that no one takes it in Malleswaram till they clear up their act. I have dissuaded at least 6 people in my area who wanted to take it because of the horrible service provided. My CTO is OM Computercraft and sublet to Anjali cables.

BTW Sushubh, if you want to renew your connections without paying any charges why dont you buy the renewal packs online from http://www.Sifymall.com.
Atleast you wont pay any charges to the CTO and you can do the renewal instantly while browsing. The new renewal stays in the renewal pipeline and gets activated once your current pack is over.
I am waiting for services to improve or will most probably take up the BSNL broadband offer. Waiting for the same to be available in my Tel exchange soon.

I am Sonu from Bnagalore. My problem is similar to one mentioned by Sridhar. I am an internet user since 1997 and has spend a lot of money on dial up connections. My monthly telephone bills were about 4500/- avg out of which about 3750 only for the internet. I used to chat a lot and was unable to control the telephone bills. And the main problem, there was not broad band in the area where I lived before (HAL 2nd stage). I shifted to Viveknagar last year and decided to go for Sify broadband. I took the connection by paying 3500/- as the installation charges to the local CTO. I think this is the most stupid thing I have ever done. Hardly I am getting the connectivity. Every time the BB101 error comes up, unable to ping the gateway. When I call the CTO’s agent, his cell says that he is not reachable. And in my 4 months of experience with sify, I was able to connect less than 10 times in the nite. Yes, I tried to connect every day atleast 10 times at regular intervels. Sify is there just to eat our money. There is nothing called customer satisfaction in their dictionary. Dont know what to do as I cannot afford to give another 3500/- to airtel or bsnl. Daily I am dialing their call center with out any use. Can u guys suggest me what to do? I am plannig to form an anti sify association. After a lot of calls to sify and supplying them with the CTO’s number,the connection then started working for a couple days only to stop again. With the indications of the lights on the hubs, it seems to be the same flimsy excuse.
But why have I, a paying customer, to be held ransom at the hands of this errant exploitative CTO again and again? If he is incapable of providing service, he should communicate the SIFY. With the reputation Sify enjoys in the market, it is not expected treat it’s customers like the common cable mafia.
Why has my life turned like the drought striken farmer’s who wait each day for the rain? I need internet connnection to communicate with my family from the comfort of my home, all of us living alone in different places around the globe; and this lousy service has seriously hampered me from keeping in touch. Are the higher Gods in SIFY listening?? Or can you just spell out the other alternative.

I have read your comments about sifu and I totally agrre with you. Your story is same as mine with Sify as the constant word. My CTO also charges extra money and when there is a problem in the line CTO says it is a sify problem and sify says it is a CTO line problem they take maintinance charge and you will need to contact them. My first complaint was one Monday and till today Friday no one has visited my home to check the line and the internet is still down. I am fed up with Both of them, atleast sify gives compensation package of 1-3 hrs for the inconvenience but this cable person are ruthless.
Please tell me if you have tried MTNL broadband and if it works fine

Same Problem we facing in Mysore frquently BB103 and BB101.Why Sify software wrote like this they now this error comes up in future.SO they wrote Client software with BB Error.
Dont belive Sify tech team as well as Marketing .

I have too joined the list of Delighted customers of sify, one of the most stupid, worst, unreliable and all the positive flavours of my dictionary into it. I would really like to screw up the sify guys, who are least bothered to provide the services to the customer. I think they are no more eligible to be in the broad band arena. This is a serious concern, and every sify customer is a sufferer. I would like to quote this mail to top gun of Sify and pass on the message to drop the services rather than providing poor responses and connectivity. I request some one of you to give the right id of the right person, wherein i can pin the voice to a place which is most uncomfortable. Without Regards to Sify. Rao

Sify has the worst franchisee network and this is going to cause its downfall. When u send a complaint to customercare@sify.com the only thing u get is an autogenerated email and their call center numbers also don’t work. They also have hidden clauses which they dont specify in their rate plans.Like for example They have a per day 125MB download limit in the unlimited connection plan, if u exceed it they reduce ur validity by 1 day.

I AM A USER atul_vipul using sify for d last few days ,i have got a package of full day and in day it works slowly and in night there is no response from d sifi ,our sify server also says that its not in their hand as their duty offs at 8 in d eveing so i want 2 know whos d responsible personality behind this bcuz we r suffering from this every night,and i know there iwill b no response 2 my problem so sir sorry 2 say by this u can loose ur customers and ur company is forcing customers 2 popt for other sevices in d market now its upto u people how u take my problem bcuz next time if i am going 2 b in trouble i think i il knock CONSUMER COURT for that hope 2 see ur reply as soon as possible.

“128Kbps is not broadband” – I think I heard this slogan from VSNL or BSNL or the central government’s telecom ministry or something like that. Subscribers, please make yourself aware of basic telecom and IT terminology before you’re fooled by service providers. I see someone “really dreaming” about a 128Mbps broadband with unlimited total bandwidth per month. 128Mbps???? – it’s available nowhere in the world for home users! Moreover, I don’t think Indian ISPs provide unlimited bandwidth per month. Also don’t dream of any connection (be it 56Kbps dialup or a multi-gigabits per second backbone) to be some kind of a supernatural power helping you download and upload as much as you can. There are basic issues such as network congestion that can happen in any network.
I find a lack of professionalism in BSNL services but BSNL DataOne broadband seems reasonable as far as transfer rate and pricing is concerned but watch out for the stringent monthly bandwidth limit. By the way, to our 128Mbps over-enthusiast, if your NIC can handle 100Mbps/1Gbps, then connecting to a BSNL broadband service through a WAN-miniport connection will show your link speed as 100Mbps when in essence you’ll be transferring at 256Kbps, so don’t be too happy :-) A real 100Mbps connection feels different :-P

Also don’t dream of any connection (be it 56Kbps dialup or a multi-gigabits per second backbone) to be some kind of a supernatural power helping you download and upload as much as you can. There are basic issues such as network congestion that can happen in any network.
I find a lack of professionalism in BSNL services but BSNL DataOne broadband seems reasonable as far as transfer rate and pricing is concerned but watch out for the stringent monthly bandwidth limit. By the way, to our 128Mbps over-enthusiast, if your NIC can handle 100Mbps/1Gbps, then connecting to a BSNL broadband service through a WAN-miniport connection will show your link speed as 100Mbps when in essence you’ll be transferring at 256Kbps, so don’t be too happy :-) A real 100Mbps connection feels different :-P

I have picked up a sify broad band connection in Mumbai Andheri east through a sify operator sadguru enterprises. My connection is down for over a month now and there is absolutely no response from the franchisee.. sify is pathetic,,, no one should subscribe to this service

In general, avoid going through franchisee. Deal with the company as directly as you can. I think BSNL is a better option.

i am really pissed off with this sify service. i stay in dombivli west my daugther is doing engineering and for my daughter’s more use of net i took sify net but when she is free at night time .she is in last year for the sake of project she needs net.she discuss things with her friends or at that time she sits on net for study pruposes the net is always closed. then what is the use of this net sevice? we have only have to call the sify office then the phone bill is same then what is the use of cable net.at the time of ganpati the net was closed for 10 days and now 5 days over the net is closed atnight . we get the connection of net from a building so i always there is some problem in building. so i request u tel the owner of our net provider to give new connection. my area is kopar road dombivli(west).

I am CTO of Sify in Gaziabad, this not only problem to sify customer only, Sifyâ?? CTO will aslo facing problem with Sify, Sify peoples are very fraud, when the sign you the promise a lot to support you, but after sign sify will no more, no support. Sify is the biggest branded IT fraud of india.my rs.850 connection of 256 kbps yields me a best download speed of 6 kbps!!!!Of the 24*30 or 720 hrs a month its supposed to be online…..its online only for a maximum of 300 hrs.many people are suffering the same in my locality in kolkata.And as for the gag that CTOs are responsible for the poor sevice i say f**k off bastar u son-of-a-sify-employee.i suggest u switch over to BSNL or Reliance…….far far better.I am off to BSNL…….

i advise u all to shift to bsnl. if you r lucky ull get connected with bsnl and its equipment from huawei which the bhayas at bsnl has no idea to maintain you will at the most be billed for the unlimited free nite usage multiplied a couple of times which promices that your bill would not exceed 27000rs(no typo)

I used Sify for 7 months in Noida sector – 41 and believe me Sify sucks. Seems the Sify people laying eggs and don’t have any time to look after customer. Teh cable operator are illiterate people don’t know how to run broadband service. When ever i tried to connect always found it not working. then you call customer support and they take 2-3 days to resolve but within an hour the connection becomes fine. I have reported the problem that most of the time its down so the problem is not of the moment but a big one where connection is not up always. So when u really need net its down, then what is the point of having it at the first place.

I faced loads of issues with Sify,
The power supply failiure is a common thing, there have 2 hubs, one near the user, in my case in my building basement and another with the Cable TV Operator’s office, last 1 month it has been ok, but I faced 3 months of crazy problems till the true unlimited plan came out, I would not download anything, but the account would invariably get over, and I am not some inexperienced guy with comps, once I exhausted a 1 GB plan in 6 days without downloading anything, I still dont know how, then comes Sify’s Renewal Team nightmares, on request for renewal thye will never do it on time, The whole day one has to call, then at the end at night the internet is still not up, at that time, the renewal team is not working so, they will give temporary 64 kbps 3 day package for free, in fact their renewal team is so pathetic, that once they gave me 2 3 day plans back to bakc, so 6 days of internet free , I dont know how do they account for all this internally,
Anyways, as long as it works now I will not complain.

The local operator is creating problem for me.. he was saying recetnly that they had to pay 1.5 lac to sify for server restoration becoz of lightening strike. And for that why shud i pay compensation?? I refused to pay for this month…
It sounds so ill-logical.. suppose my computer gets burned up due to the sify lines during a thunderstorm.. can i claim compensation from the operator/Sify??
I really want to put a consumer litigation againt SIFY

The local operator named Sonu is creating problem for me.. he was saying recetnly that he needs mor money to be paid to him alonwith the money which was paid to the sify broadband company whom I paid throgh e-card. Rs. 2350.00 for six months. As well I paid money few days after internet network stoped. I complained number of times but in vain. When I repeated my complains I was told by the company we are not not any more responsible for cable network connection. We have recieved our money now you need to pay separate money to the local cable networker Sonu. I want to file criminal complain against the company for cheating me under section 406 and 420 with the IPC. Kindly guide me in this matter, How can I file my complain against such companies.

He also did not given deposit money rs.4000/(four thousand).He told the whole money for insulation.your site engineer tamilmaran never careabout customer problems.He also indirectely suportting him.He always told,informed hiher authority.God only knows?I am disturbing without internet connection from june 13th onwards.Help me immeadiately or recover my deposit as soon as possible.

I Agree with you.Sify sucks.I am a franchisee(CTO).The first time i took up the franchisee i had to pay Rs.1,60,000 by cheque.They told me the after 100 connection they will provide a technical engineer.I have more then 200 connections but till now no sign of any technical engineer.Coz i am technically savvy i am managing it.But the other CTO are paying from their pockets to keep their connecitons aliveand if they dont they will have to be in jail.They dont give a damn coz they are getting their money in advance.Their slogan is “Maximum connection minimum staff”.If you have called up their call center you will know what kind of idiots are there.They cant even speak.If complain to the call center they forward it to the local office and the local office due to shortage of staff will forward it to the CTO maybe after a day or will send the case as closed without even informing the CTO.This what sify is all about.Please send me a mail at kumarilbora@gmail.com so that i can nail these bastar…who has made my life so miserable.

Sify is really bad.
