London’s financial district to go wireless
While some of the American cities are working on going completely wireless, the city of London is experimenting with making their financial district totally wireless. As per incoming reports, the Square Mile, Europe’s premier financial district would soon have around 150 WiFi network ‘nodes’.
These nodes would make it possible for mobile users to get connected to the internet whether they are using laptops, PDAs, or even Wi-Fi capable gaming devices. Peter Bennett, a representative for the Corporation of London said in a statement on these plans: “This will allow people to have continuous online access, whether in a taxi or an open area, across the financial center.â€
Consumers of this WiFi service would be charged according to the service provider they are subscribed too. For other customers, a flat fee of five pounds ($8.70 US) would be charged for every hour of usage. These WiFi nodes would be installed in lampposts, closed-circuit TV poles, and street signs across London’s business and financial center in the coming months.
