Russia and 3G mobile phone licenses
The Russian Telecommunications Minister Leonid Reiman has said that the government would be offering licenses for third generation (3G) mobile telephones beginning this year.
The market for mobile phones based on traditional technologies has more or less matured in the country and this has made it necessary for the mobile service providers to look towards the next generation technologies.
Reiman said in a statement: On January 1 “there were around 120 million mobile phone subscribers in Russia and it is obvious that with a population of 150 million we must soon reach saturation level.â€
The 3G mobile technology is powerful enough to let consumers enjoy services as music, TV, video and Internet access on their mobile phones.
