Tata Sky DTH service coming this June
People suffering at the hands of their local cable guys (or shall we say goons) have some good news in store for them. The joint venture between Tata and Star, Tata Sky is due to be launched sometime by June this year. This would provide consumers with an alternative to terrestrial transmission and Dish TV’s DTH package.
Zee’s Dish TV has been a disappointment for a lot of users with even the franchisee complaining about the lack of support they get from the company. Tata and Star should be able to do a better task with their services.
Tata Sky has tied up with Thomson for the set-top boxes and NDS Systems for the smart card technology. Vikram Kaushik, CEO, Tata Sky said about their upcoming services: “Our DTH service will completely redefine the television viewing experience in India. We are committed to building a state-of-the-art DTH operation. NDS Systems will enable us to transfer control and choice into the hands of subscribers.â€
Koen van Driel, senior vice-president, satellite, terrestrial and cable business unit, Thomson added about their involvement in this launch: “As the largest and most exciting new DTH TV project in the world, we are very proud to have been selected as a key supplier by Tata Sky.â€

yes,I agree that Dish TV has no content to offer except HBO and their officials at Noida ar behaving like Hitler or just as they are selling smack or opium which does not require any support service.I wish Tata-sky should flll the gap.Please enlighten how they are going to convert conax into NDS technology and in case it is a cheap conversion and the subscriber has not to spend more,then I assure thatDish Tv wont be abletoretain even a single subscriber,Interalia TATa -SKY can announce a replacement

Dish INDIA owned by zee has the worst line up of international channels like boomarang tv and stc these channels with the local cable operator in chennai through STB for free however dish calls them exclusive pay channels even VH1 is free but pay on dish when comparing dish with DD DTH its better to go for the Latter because its free and offers the same regional entertainment

I used to be a dealer for Dish and recently gave up dealership because no after sales back up by dish tv in chennai and the phone no they gave for dealers was not reachable at most times and we had to attend to customers problems

As for as my knowledge of events goes, the package of these channels is included in the DHCPMaxie package., However,for others they will be charging appx.900/- per year extra for these channels. But I am not sure,it is an inside information.

Tata-sky likely to take off on 1st of June this year.
all the transmission is on KU Band and most probably it is 80 degree east.

These are available with Dish Tv Dealers.It will roughly cost Rs.2200/- when purchased in Freedom scheme.It wont support all the packages.For viewing the all packages of Dish TV You will have toshell our Rs.365/per month extra(NOt worth paying).Star and Sony is not available on Dish Tv Platform yet.Better wait.

saw the channel list on the dish tv website… mostly not worth the moolah…
will we have to get a different stb for tata sky? isn’t it legally mandatory to have the stbs interoperable?
tata sky’s website isn’t even up yet… are you sure they are launching in a month…

I read that cable operator association is objecting that alleged ad for Tata Sky depicts cable operator as a goon. My simple question from them is can association show me a single area where the customer have a choice to select a cable operator? There is no choice, no other cable operator enters other ‘goons’ territory! Is it not a valid proof.
For the last one and a half year I got my cable disconnected and eagerly waiting for the Tata Sky DTH. But Tata Sky must be warned before that they are going to accept a challenge and a rope walk to give customer a proper service.I am fed up with VSNL Internet connection complaint which has never been attended regarding a issue of Trend Micro Antivirus offer on monthly subscription, without even downloading the software VSNL cut 2 months charges and from Sept 05 to date no refund and no reply, beware customers of VSNL Internet would be customers!

They are really cheating their clients i am also includes in one of them.They are selling each free channel at their own cost.So to get all channel for a user he has to pay huge amount.Then what is the difference b/w ac cable tv and dtv network.I expect tsky to be a solution for this
pls atleast make the indian regional channel free.I also kindly request tsky to help the clients befooled by dtv by repacing their idiot zenega stb or make an arrangement to view tsky

tata sky no doubt will provide an excellent services but the local cable operators are saying we will not allow the dth to run smoothly we will do whatever we want I think they need to take some bold steps to keep these operators out of their bay and also they need to keep their charges half of what cable operaors r charging

i am surprised no one is talking about hathway didgital cable TV services.it seems to have best of both DTH and cable worlds.i own one and have been extremely happy with the digital content.also i get almost all the channels and most importantly some very good movie and international channels.vh1,mbc2,mbc4,one,hbo,dwtv,hallmark to name a few……… unless t-sky has something better to offer,why should i even bother ? i use a sony trinitron with the hathway set top box and trust me,it is just great……now planning a plasma TV for my room…..

Cable operators do not allow others to operate in their area. Even though Hathway digital cable services are available in Bangalore, it is not possible to get it if your local cable operator does not belong to their association.
The biggest problem is that the consumer cannot choose which cable operator he wants and is stuck with the cable operator of his area.

4)how you are going to support your customer ..in case of any problem on fixing and maintenance?..

Tata sky staff promised free dish and free wiring upto subscribers premises in June. They have even fixed the pipes for taking the wiring and promised to fix the dish antenna in 2 or 3 days. But so far there is no trace. I am waiting for their programmes since they have promised set top boxes at concessional rates. Can anyone tell whether they are likely to start service early or we have to wait indefinitely.
I am from sri rama apartments in new number 4, West circular road, mandavelipakkam, chennai=28. I would like to have their telephone number atleast.

I’ve purchased Tata-SKy DTH
package contains –
One Dish Antenna with ‘SHARP’ LNB, dish has good build quality..
STB is Thomson DSI 3207C..which is not listed on thomson.net site, i think it is specially made for tata-sky..
Viewing card is inserted from front panel, on card only Tata-sky logo with NDS name printed..
Another thing receiver has CI module too, but it seems that company is not interested to show the module openning, hence it is located in back behind screwed plate…….Hidden slot….
Now…speaks about reception….Faaaaaantasticcccc…better than DishTV…
Picture quality is coollll,sound are realastic…and one more thing channel switching is faster ..instant…hmmmmmmsoftware is nice too but there no option for system setting STB Technical setting. All are preconfigured, i’m sorry but there is no selection for other satellites or freq. … this is not possible …may be some functions are hidden and only starts with perfect key press combinations…like service code…pls buddies find that service codes…it will gives access to penetrates deep into the technology of Digital world..
At last but not least …Tata-sky is better than boring DishTV

Hi everyone,
I’d like to know when Tata sky will launch the zee , sony and other channels.I heard there’s some difficulty getting transponders.At the moment,Dishtv does look way better but I dont want to take it cos of all the public criticism.Any reply wld be helpful.

Hello all, nice to see more getting into knowing about the DTH platform in India. But as usual the coustemers are taken for a ride by being forced to get a new dish and a set top reciever from each and every service provider, every time you want to switch over. Dont you guys feel this ridiculous? For an example, take my case, I bought a dish and a Universal digital reciever and got it installed to view the DD direct+ FTAs. My reciever has 2 CI slots and a CAM module to facilitate me to go in for another service without opting for an additional hardware. But, the service providers are not ready to just enroll you a subscriber and provide you the module and the Smartcard required. Will the TRAI come out with certain revision and clarification with the service providers? Let us all join as one and raise this issue and enable each and every Indian to taste the fruit.

I got my Tata Sky installed today, i called them today and they delivered it and installed it within 4 hours of my call. I am mighty impressed. They laid the cable professionally. The picture quality just plain rocks. My cable operator sucked big time.
I was told by the installation guy that there is an option where i can add free to air channels myself if i know the frequency and other details.
Can you guys tell me what other international channels be added freely which otherwise is restricted by TRAI or for whatever reason?

Hi Vivek!
The best way to find out that would be to check the website of the individual satellites from which you can get signals. In this case TATA has leased INSAT4A. You can go http://www.lyngsat.com/in4a.html to find out the list of the channels.
If you want to get some foreign channels ,say from The middle-east,then you need to have a dish ith which it is possible to get signals from other satellites as well like Hotbird from europe.However, you can randomly try with INSAT 4A but it would be a cumbersome process.

It is to write with great disappointment that TATA SKY
service is not good. As I wrote Tata Sky many time
regarding poor quality of pictures of Zee channels.
But I didnt get any satisfactory response from Tata Sky. After many complaints result is that My tata Sky is switched and said if

have any complain regarding this type otherwise your tata sky will be switched off.

It is really disappointing on the part of TATA sky to raise their subscription from Rs.200 to Rs.300.Per month. After taking this dth service in Sept 2006 only 2 channels were added i.e. Neo sports and DD North East. Tata sky service has lot of DD’s FTA channels and no international, Sun channels, and audio channels are added. Tata sky people say that their picture and Sound is of DVD quality, but in india service and as well as affordable subscription goes along. So stop fooling people and get to work to add more channels and radio channels as promised earlier.

Dishtv services are really bad … i m really not “Santusht”… never give any responses to mails n phone calls.
No service centre in South Delhi.
I recommend not to subscribe Dishtv, go for TataSky…

Hi….Everyone…i like o tell you about Tata sky services…..means after sales service….we Purchased tata sky long time back….beginning of tata sky….that time there is sooo many channels on that and the montly bill is 300/rs appro……but day by day….the channels decreased from tht sky and bill still 300/- rs app for a month…..but now tata sky increasing the channel….and the bad news is they want more money if u want to see those channels on tata sky….i write sooo many mail on help@tatasky.com…but no one revert on my mail….i called up at call center…they confirm they received the mail…but still no body reply on my mail…..sooo people don’t bye TATA sky……stay away and stick with cable….tht good for you
