Vodafone planning to expand fixed-line services
Vodafone is one of the leading mobile service providers in various countries around the world. The company is now considering expanding their fixed line services to their customers. This view was shared by the Vodafone Chief Executive Arun Sarin with a UK based newspaper.
Sarin said in an interview that the company was working on at offering broadband Internet and Internet voice (VoIP) over phone lines. This would help them compete more effectively with traditional telecom companies in the country.
Sarin said: “The question is as the world evolves with services like VoIP and Wi-Fi and all that, should we expand the services our company provides?â€. However, he did add that Vodafone had no immediate plans to acquire fixed-line players such as BT Group Plc as reported in the media.
The company however had recently sold their Japan based telecom unit for 1.8 trillion yen to Softbank Corp.
