BSNL and MTNL set to launch IPTV
Interestingly, the two state owned telecom companies are failing to satisfy the average customer with their broadband services, the telecom ministry claims that they are soon going to launch their IPTV services!
Minister for IT and Communication, Dayanidhi Maran said in a statement that Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. (MTNL) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) are gearing up to provide Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) through telephone cables.
Mr. Maran was speaking to reporters while inaugurating the research centre for Scientific-Atlanta (U.S.), a division of Cisco, in Chennai on Monday. He added that this center from Cisco would enable the company to offer world class, end-to-end data, voice, video and mobility solutions for carrier networks, and the digital home.
The telecom companies in India are now aiming at using IPTV as their next source of revenues after telephony, broadband connectivity and other value added services.
