I am under the shared 48kbps+ pack of sify now. I was really pissed off when I got to know that there is a limit on the downloads. In spite of their good service, sify’s customer care division, really frustrates me. When I call them for any problem, what I get is a sweet “Thank you Mr. So & So”. Nothing else. There is no technical person to assist in solving problems. All they do is make sure that they convey their gratitude for a user, keeping mum about the problems faced. When Sify had the interest in updating the tariffs in the web pages and in the pamphlets distributed, care is not taken to ensure that the conditions of a plan are put down explicitly. I don’t even know whether it is legal to impose a condition that is not stated anywhere. The day after I had booked and “paid” for my connection they called me up for telling me about the tariff increase. Know what “I paid them without a squeak”. They shouldn’t have asked me in the first place as I had finished acquiring the package. Only the installation was left. Sounds as if Maruti can impose a new increase on the price of a car after the user has purchased it and is ready to take it home. I complied with them because of the cheap connection tariffs. And now all I get for such a good gesture is a shocking info after 15days of purchasing the connection, about the hidden limits. Why isn’t the company showing any interest to update such limits in its webpage? Anyway, I am continuing with Sify, mumbling all the time. I am now shifting to the 128kbps night unlimited plan, fro mthe fourth of next month.

Hi i am from chennai.Even i am facing the same problems that Ajay is facing. I bought a night package[128 kbps] on 18-10-04 and for about a week everything was fine. And then the problems started…i lost my connection and after 100’s of calls to Customer care and CTO i got my connection on 7th of this month…yes they gave me the compensation…but what’s the use…again i lost the connection on 9th and got it back only on 18th..still not proper…as i am writing this…i am still having problems…the connection is not reliable. I lose the connection now and then.

Though they give the compensation for whatever time period i was not able to use the pack, that does not solve my problems. I am a freelancer and when i was supposed to complete a particular project in a specified time, without internet…how???

Could they give compensation for the losses in the project work.!!!???

Anand: A friend of mine…

I know you’ll kill me, but I have to tell you this. I got a sify “Broadband” connection and the problems have already started (more so related to the local cablewallah). I noticed something else also, yahoo mail sites (mail.yahoo.com) doesnt open! it takes ages (I usually closed the window after about 3 minutes) and guess what all your sify bashing blogs dont open either!. Surprisingly all other site open at really good speeds (when the connection isn’t down). Oh! the bb client is really trashy.

Yogesh Sawant

Sify sucks ! The broadband client is pathetic. I am at the mercy of the useless software which to my misery hangs my net surfing. Thereafter I
have logout problems. I am seriously thinking of switching ISP. Any comments???

krishna

I am a resident of Hyderabad and I too have taken a broadband connection from sify. I too am experiencing the same problems with sify. My connection frequently gets disconnected like in every 2-3 min. And the bandwidth I get during the day when the connection is up is pathetic, its like 200-300 Bytes per second. I have even made complaints to both the local cable guy and sify but nothing has improved.

Secondly, the local cable guy uses hubs instead of switches. So there is virtually no privacy as any one can capture and read the data packets.

I even suspect fowl play with the new 2.51 “enhanced” version. Its automatically getting me disconnected when ever I am trying to download anything big (10-15meg). I would seriously want to reverse engineer the new client when I find time. On Linux I am being forced to run the b**ch `sifyconnect’ client as root! Those incompetent a** ho**s can’t write a decent peice of software. While they call themselves the fourth largest software co. of India! Its a shame…

I have recently subscribed to Sify Broadband Internet connection with an unlimited plan (Rs 615/-)and I must say I am very satisfied with the kind of service you are providing AT YOUR END. Your excellent service is definitely consistent with the goodwill Sify has in the market. However, I would like to bring to your notice a small problem I and other consumers have been facing AT OUR END. I believe officially you are not charging any amount other than the package rate inclusive of service tax but AT MY END as a consumer, I and many others in this zone are being charged Rs. 200/- in addition to the package amount for sake of line maintenance by the CTO (Skyline communication) in Mehrauli, New Delhi area and that makes a very competitive package very exorbitant and an annoying expenditure. So, I would request the concerned authority to take note of this discrepancy. Thanks.

    Hi All,

Whatever broadband we subscribe in india, it will suck. After going to Tokyo, Japan, I had the opputunity to experience Yahoo Broadband and it is over a telephone line. The speed is 45MBps and averages out to 30MBps. After being through all this India is in the Stone age when it comes to internet.

    Thanks

    Well, I hate sify because:
I am one of the large number of consumers who crave for high download speed for mass downloads. So when i saw satyam iway “broadband” i was kind of elated. I knew that my time was coming and at last I would be able to download a linux cd of 500 mb or so. Little I knew that i knew nothing.I went to the iway and got a cold reception, well not talking about the AC! But then when I got the download speed for the first time, I was amazed. 24kbps. Thins amazement lasted for about 10sec, by which time the download rate went down to 3-4kbps. I rest my case. Sify is NOT a broadband. And this is one of the modern corporate which is making a nuisance of itself by providing wrong information about the “broadband”. I used to hate Satyam Dial up connection. Now sify, I mean i am about to burst. I so fuck1n6 hate sify. Fuc you iway. Go to the dogs plz! I hate u and ur iways.

    hi all,
here iam one more consumer cheated by sify.i purchased a 48kbps unlimited broadband pack from sify.and they are cutting out 3to 4 days from my account every 24hrs.when contacted customer care they say u r allowed to download only 150mb/day which is surprising as its not mentioned anywhere.when i told them that they say if u have a problem u can mail to customer care.my 1month connection will now be over in under 20 days.they have not mentioned this clause any where,so it accounts to cheating the consumer and i plan to go to court and also see if any news agency would look into my problem and go public as this is not happening to me but to a lot of sify costomers…

    Hi all,

I’ve had Sify for 2 months (foolishly took a 3 month contract). Of that 2 months, it has been working for around 10 days - despite daily calls and emails to customer support, and around 6 visits from their cable guys.

    Dodgy Eth hub install

Half the time I get no link (on the ethernet cable), because the dodgy install of their hubs means that every time there is a gush of wind, the power goes off on these hubs. The remainder of the time, their gateway seems to be down.

Using hathway as main ISP now, so far so good.

POOR / WORSE / WORST SERVICE BY SIFY BROADBAND

    Hello all,

This is sathya and I wish to tell some of the problems Im facing with the SIFY BROADBAND. I bought a new sify broadband connection from one of their dealers / Franchisee at Arumbakkam, Chennai on July and is said to me that the connection will be received in 3 days. But I received connection only after 5 days. First itself there is very slow in their process of connecting the cable.
After getting connection, I was told by their dealer / Franchisee that they may be contacted directly if any problem arises regarding connectivity. I informed them many times but I dont have any complaint number. And finally I was continuously not able to connect them for 16 days. In the middle of those days, when I contacted their customer care office I have been informed that my problem will be solved in 12 working hours and that itself took more than a week for them to reconnect my connection. I dont know whether the Sify works for their dealer / franchisee or the dealer / franchisee work for the sify and still Im not able to determine who is the boss amongst them.
And again from December end to the middle of January i.e., within a period of 20 days, I complained the customer care of Sify about 6 times for continous disconnection while browsing (Always the same error : Check with local cable network and unable to reach the gateway) but that was not solved till now by them. They are only eager in their money making but not doing the work well and good. If the work is done well I think there will not be any disconnection and I dont need to call their customer care frequently. They gave only temporary solution and not a permanent solution. The customer care of Sify always says that they are only complaint receiving team and they have to contact their technical team regarding each and every complaint and they were not able to give me an exact scenario of my complaint. And I hope that in my area these problem occurs again and again and the Sify dealer / Franchisee is careless and even Sify customer care is careless on my complaints. The Sify team should know how to make connections without disconnectivity and they should learn a lesson atleast after seeing this.
As an ISP their job is to give continous internet connection without disconnectivity every second i.e.,60*60*24*7 without fail but they failed to do that. One of their representative said, there is some problem at the connection point and problem is due to that only. But they are not giving me permanent solution even after knowing that problem. Why cant they think of that before when I asked for new connection (Only money is their motive at that time). After paying initial amount for connection, they didnt even install any other external devices like modem etc, as a property of our own. Its just a cable running inside and outside for their connection.
I bought Sify broadband to just browse and explore all and for games and to relax a bit. But that itself has became a burden to me and it gets me in high tentions resulting no peace of mind. I request that I may be advised how to file a Consumer case against them by telling the mistakes in detail about them and their dealer / Franchisee and how can I claim money due to mental embarrassment by them for their poor / worse / worst service and also how to teach them a lesson while giving connection to another persons.

Sify is a headache, shitty service. With BSNL broadband giving all the private ISP players giving a run for their money, one would think the ISPs would upgrade their service to a much more efficient level, but you would be surprised to know that Sify is taking it all very coolly. A friend of mine has a BSNL broadband basic serive (surfing pkg of 400 MB limit) but even then the local Tele exchange officer himself came and checked and rectified the problem when this friend of mine complained of not getting proper connection…go figure, one of the most laid back depts of India is giving such good service and look at Sify. They will send 2 different sets of people to collect money from one end of mumbai to the other, but when it comes to service, they will give you lame excuses like 1. We will look into it.
    2. We are looking into it.
    3. The techical team is looking into it.
    4. It is a local hardware problem.
    5. Our local technical team is looking into it.

    Pathetic service.

Sify subscribers beware, you will only get 15 days’ of internet surfiing hours from a month’s package of unlimited service package.

Go for BSNL broadband or any other service. Sify is the most pathetic service available in the name of hi-speed internet connection. All you will be doing is spending your money, energy, losing your peace of mind for a very very bad service. Sify CTO’s take Rs. 50 per computer from a cybercafe who illegally use their home package products and get speeds up to 20 to 30 kbps while home users spend money and get speeds of 0.2 to 0.5 kbps, i.e., less than 1 kbps which is worse than a dialup speed. Go for other broadband services if you can. Do not suffer like me.
