Bharti to launch services in Jersey
Bharti has won an important license which would enable them to provide comprehensive telecom services, including cellular and international long distance (ILD), in Jersey located in British Isles.
Jersey as a result becomes the second foreign destination where Bharti would be providing their services. They are already functioning in Seychelles, where Bharti entered in 1998.
The license was won by Jersey Telenet, a subsidiary of Bharti Global which itself is an offshore investment company of Bharti Group.
This unit would be investing close to around £20 million in setting up networks and the services are expected to be operational later this year.
Bharti would be using technology provided by Nokia and IBM for networks and other IT solutions respectively.
Bharti Enterprises CMD Sunil Mittal: said in a statement on this news event: “Having spearheaded the growth of telecom sector in India, Bharti is committed to providing world-class telecom services now in Jersey. The acquisition of telecom license in Jersey will be a springboard for other opportunities that may be present globally.â€
