Haier to setup a mobile manufacturing unit in India

Chinese mobile handset maker Haier has said in a statement that they are planning to establish a mobile phone manufacturing plant in the Indian market.

This plant should be ready for production in the next 18-24 months.

Mr. Arun Khanna, the Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, Haier Telecom India said in a statement: “Our target is to achieve a sale of 5 million handsets in India, in another 18-24 months. If we achieve this target then we would consider setting up a manufacturing unit here in India.”

However, the company has not finalized the details of this plan to expand their presence in the Indian market. They have as of now tied up with Tata Teleservices for its launch of CDMA handsets.

Haier would be launching a new range of both CDMA and GSM mobile phones in a price range of Rs 2,000 to Rs 20,000.

The Group Chairman of Haier, Mr. Chai Yongsen added his views: “We will bring in new technologies and models at both the entry and top level to make a strong presence in India.”
