BSNL receive five bids for their GSM contract
BSNL is expected to become a major force in the GSM market in India as the company just released a huge tender for telecom equipment.
As per incoming reports, the company has received five bids in a $4.8 billion tender for 45.5 million GSM lines.
The government owned telecom company has the third largest mobile customer base in the country and is concentrating on expanding their network to further expand their market share. India is one of the fastest growing mobile markets in the world and BSNL is aiming to tap this huge market.
BSNL said in a statement on the new developments: “We have received five technical bids and they have been opened. We will now analyze techno-commercial bids.†The five companies to bid for this tender are Nokia, Ericsson, Siemens, Motorola Inc. and ZTE Corp.
The company has already said that the order for 45.5 million lines would be spread between two winners. In addition, they would also be purchasing 18 million lines from state-run telecoms gear maker ITI Ltd.
