Himachal Futuristic Communications Ltd wants to become a GSM service provider
Qualcomm might face even more problems in the Indian market as after Reliance, HFCL has expressed its desire to shift to GSM technology for mobile services.
Punjab-based Himachal Futuristic Communications Ltd (HFCL) is rumored to have applied for GSM spectrum for offering mobile services.
The company runs telecom services under the brand name ‘Connect’ in Punjab and Chandigarh. Inside sources said that the company wants to move away from offering CDMA-based mobile services to GSM.
However, HFCL has no plans to get out of the CDMA market and would continue to serve customers in the near future.
DoT has also confirmed that HFCL had applied for GSM spectrum on 1800 MHz. with Reliance and HFCL moving to the GSM market, Tata and MTNL are the only two exclusive players left in the CDMA market.
