Indian government blocking access to Blogger Blogs?

We heard about it on the Indian Broadband Forum first. Now, the news is more widespread and almost confirmed.

Looks like the Indian government is indeed instructing ISPs to block certain blogging networks and that includes the very popular Blogger.

As per incoming information, The Department of Telecommunications has sent a notice to ISPs operating in the country to block around 17-18 websites on the internet.

Such kinds of steps are only taken when the government finds objectionable, anti-national content on the websites, which are blocked from access locally.

Analysts believe that the government is aiming to block these free blogging services to stop the interactions between militant groups in the country. However, this is not a good way to go ahead with it considering there are unlimited avenues present on the net, which can be used to sharing and transferring information.

Blocking access to millions and millions of harmless blogs on the BlogSpot network is really not something a democratic country like India should be doing. It makes us sound like our neighboring countries where censorship is the way to go when it comes to the web.
