Tata and Sky finally launches Tata Sky DTH Service in India

India finally has another player in the DTH market. Zee already has a presence in the market with their Dish TV service. Prasar Bharti also has a presence with their DD Direct service. And now Sky has entered the market in collaboration with Tata and they have launched Tata Sky service in the Indian market.

The two companies have invested as much as Rs 2,500 crore in this service. And they are currently offering 55 channels including Star, Sony, ESPN, Disney, National Geographic, NDTV, Asianet, and TV Today at the moment.

The service has been launched simultaneously in around 300 cities around the country.

The company is offering these 55 channels at a flat cost of Rs. 200 per month. However, the consumer would have to shell out around Rs. 4000 for installation and equipment cost.

Hardware cost should come down at least by 50% and there should be package with selective channels so customer will select and which should be cost effective, rest is ok

I got my Tata Sky installed yesterday. However I’m disappointed by the lack of channels like Zee, HBO & Cartoon Network.

Installation and setup cost should be reduced upto Rs. 1000
although if they can increase monthly rental upto Rs. 250/- is affordable. Due to high installation cost people will think about this while going into this scheme.

People fear after few months they may hike the monthly cost incredibly.

Is Tata Sky providing Internet and LandLine service also?
